25:1

Blessed is the One Who has revealed Al-Furqan (the criterion to distinguish right from wrong: The Qur’an) to His servant (Muhammad), that he may be a Warner to the worlds;
Meaning:-
Criterion: a principle or standard by which something may be judged or decided.

25:2

˹Allah is˺ the One to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, Who has never had ˹any˺ offspring (no son has He begotten), nor does He have a partner in ˹governing˺ the kingdom. He has created everything, ordaining it precisely.
Meaning:-
Offspring: a person’s children, human child or animal child.
Begotten (Begotten is past participle of Beget).: To produce (children) by sexual reproduction.
Precisely: complete accuracy or perfection.

25:3

Yet they have taken besides Him gods who cannot create anything but are themselves created. Nor can they protect or benefit themselves. Nor can they control life, death, or resurrection.
Meaning:-
Resurrection: coming back to life after death.

25:4

Those who disbelieve say: “This ˹Quran˺ is nothing but a lie that he ˹Muhammad˺ has invented, and others have helped him at it, so that they have produced an unjust wrong (thing) and a lie.”

25:5

And they say: “These are the stories of the former people, which he has written down from what is read to him day and night.”
Meaning:-
Former: coming before in time, in an earlier time; before the present time or in the past.

25:7

And they say ˹mockingly˺, “What kind of messenger ˹Muhammad˺ is this who eats food and goes about in market-places ˹like ourselves for a living˺? If only an angel had been sent down with him to be his co-warner,
Meaning:-
Mockingly making fun of someone or something in a cruel way; derisive.
co: together, partner, assistant, equally or jointly.

25:8

Why he has not been given a treasure or at least a garden from which he could eat?” And these wicked people further say: “You are only following a man who is bewitched.”
Meaning:-
Wicked:evil or morally wrong
Bewitch: cast a spell on and gain control over (someone) by magic.

25:9

See ˹O Prophet˺ how they call you names! So they have gone so ˹far˺ astray that they cannot find the ˹Right˺ Way.
Meaning:-
Astray: Away from the correct path or direction, become lost or mislaid.

25:11

In fact, they deny the Hour ˹of the Judgment to come˺. And for the deniers of the Hour, We have prepared a blazing Fire.
Meaning:-
Blazing: burning brightly and with great heat, burning very strongly; very hot.

25:12

When the Hellfire sees them from a distant place, they will hear its fury and roaring.
Meaning:-
Fury: extreme fierceness or violence, effect of strong wind.
Roaring: a loud, deep cry or sound or a series of such sounds.

25:15

Ask them: “Which is better, this hell or the eternal paradise which the righteous are being promised, which will be the reward of their good deeds and also their final destination;

25:17

On that Day, He will gather all these people together along with the deities whom they worshiped besides Allah, and ask: “Was it you who misled these servants of Mine, or did they choose to go astray themselves?”
Meaning:-
Deities: godships, a god or goddess (in a polytheistic religion), the state of being a god; divine nature; godhood.
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction.

25:18

Those deities will answer: “Glory be to You! It was not befitting for us that we could take any guardian besides You, but You let them and their forefathers enjoy the comforts of worldly life until they forgot the Reminder, and thereby became worthless people.”
Meaning:-
Deities: godships, a god or goddess (in a polytheistic religion), the state of being a god; divine nature; godhood.

25:19

Thus your gods ‘Deities‘ will deny all that you profess today. Then you shall neither be able to avert your punishment nor shall you get any help from anywhere; and every one among you who is guilty of wrongdoing, We shall make him taste the mighty punishment.
Meaning:-
Deities: godships, a god or goddess (in a polytheistic religion), the state of being a god; divine nature; godhood.
Avert: to turn away or aside (one’s eyes or thoughts).

25:20

We never sent any messenger before you ˹O Muhammad˺, who did not eat food and go about in market-places. We have made some of you ˹people’ a trial for others. Will you ˹not then˺ be patient? And your Lord is All-Seeing.

25:21

Those who do not expect to meet Us ‘on the Day of Judgement’ say, “Why were not angels sent down to us, or ‘why’ do we ‘not’ see our Lord?” They have certainly been carried away by their arrogance and have entirely exceeded all limits.

25:22

˹But˺ on the Day they will see the angels, there will be no good news for the sinners, and ‘the angels’ will say, “There is a barrier forbidden (to you) altogether!”
Meaning:-
Explanation of the Ayat: They will not be allowed to enjoy any of the felicity or peace which will be the normal state of the new world of Reality. Their own past will stand as a barrier to shut them off.

25:23

Then We will turn to whatever ˹good˺ deeds they did ‘in this life’, and We shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dust.
Meaning:-
Explanation of the Ayat: The false hopes they built on in this life, and the deeds did under the shadow of such false hopes will be dissipated as if they were dust flying about in the wind. They will have no value whatever.

25:27

And ˹beware of˺ the Day the wrongdoer will bite his hands ˹in regret˺ and say, “Oh! I wish I had followed the Way along with the Messenger!
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: especially a sinner, or transgressor, criminal, dishonestly; an offender.

25:29

“He indeed led me astray from the Reminder ‘this Quran’ after it had come to me. And Satan has always betrayed humanity.
Meaning:-
Betray: mislead, deceive, to be unfaithful, an act of deliberate disloyalty,

25:32

The disbelievers say, “Why is not the Qur’an revealed to him all at once? ˹We have sent it˺ as such ˹in stages˺ so We may reassure your heart with it. And We have arranged it in right order.

25:36

and said to them: “Both of you should go to the people who have denied Our Revelations (Signs).” But those people rejected Our Messengers, as a result We destroyed them with utter destruction.

25:37

Likewise, the people of Nuh (Noah) We drowned when they rejected the Messengers and made them an example for mankind; and We have prepared a painful punishment for such wrongdoers.
Meaning:-
Wrongdoer: a person who behaves illegally or dishonestly; an offender.

25:40

They ‘Unbelievers’ have certainly passed by the city ˹of Sodom˺, which had been showered with a dreadful rain ˹of stones˺. Have they not seen its ruins? But they do not expect to be resurrected.
Meaning:-
Sodom: a city destroyed by Allah for its wickedness.
Dreadful: causing great fear or terror, involving great suffering, extremely bad or serious, terrible, shocking
Ruins: state of being destroyed or severely damaged.
Resurrected: to bring (a dead person) back to life.

25:42

He would have almost tricked us away from our gods, had we not been [so] steadfastly attached to them!” ˹But˺ soon they will know, when they face the punishment, who is far astray from the ˹Right˺ Way.

25:44

Or do you think that most of them listen or understand? They are only like cattle—no, more than that, they are astray from the ˹Right˺ Way
Meaning:-
Astray: into error, away from the correct path or direction.

25:45

Have you not considered (the work of) your Lord, how He extends the shade? And if He had pleased He would certainly have made it stationary; then We make the sun its guide.
Meaning:-
Stationary: standing still; not moving.
Explanation of the Ayat: The morning shadows are long but more definite, and their length and direction are seen to be guided by the sun. But they change insensibly every second or fraction of a second.

25:50

And indeed We have distributed it ‘rain or water’ amongst them in order that they may remember the Grace of Allah, but most people refuse ‘or deny the Truth or Faith’ and accept nothing but disbelief or ungratefulness.

25:51

And if We had pleased We would certainly have raised a warner in every town.
Meaning:-
Brief description of the Ayat: Allah’s Message has been distributed to all nations. If it had been necessary, a Prophet could have been sent to every town and village. But Allah’s Plan is different. He has sent His Light to every heart, through His Signs in man’s conscience, in Nature, and in Revelation. “But We have willed instead that Muhammad be Our last prophet and, hence, a warner unto all people for all times to come”.

25:52

Therefore listen not to the Unbelievers, but strive against them with the utmost strenuousness, with the (Qur’an).
Meaning:-
Strenuousness: Requiring great effort, energy, or using great exertion.

25:53

And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition.
Meaning:-
Brief description of the Ayat:
In Allah’s overall scheme of things, bodies of salt and sweet water, which are adjoining and yet separate, have significant functions. Weaving a harmonious fabric out of these different fibres shows both Allah’s power and wisdom. Incidentally, this verse points to a fact which has only recently been discovered by science. This fact relates to the oceans of the world: they meet and yet each remains separate for Allah has placed “a barrier, a partition” between them.

25:55

But they worship (those deities) rather than Allah that which does not benefit them or harm them, and the disbeliever is ever, against his Lord, an assistant [to Satan].
Meaning:-
Deities: Fake God, godships, a god or goddess (in a polytheistic religion), the state of being a god; divine nature; godhood.

25:57

Say, “I do not ask you for any reward for this ˹message˺, but whoever wishes, let them pursue the Way to their Lord.”
Meaning:-
Pursue: To strive to gain or accomplish, as to follow or chase, to continue with

25:59

˹He is˺ the One Who created the heavens and the earth and everything in between in six Days, then established Himself on the Throne ‘of Authority’. ˹He is˺ the Most Compassionate! Ask ˹none other than˺ the All-Knowledgeable about Himself.

25:60

When it is said to them, “Prostrate to the Most Compassionate,” they ask ˹in disgust˺, “What is ‘the Most Compassionate’? Will we Prostrate to whatever you order us to?” And it only drives them farther away.:
Meaning:-
Prostrate: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
Disgust: cause extreme dislike, disapproval

25:62

And He is the One Who causes the day and the night to alternate, ˹as a sign˺ for whoever desires to be mindful or to be grateful.
Meaning:-
Mindful: conscious or aware of something, heedful.

25:64

˹They are˺ those who spend ˹a good portion of˺ the night, prostrating themselves and standing before their Lord.
Meaning:-
Prostrating: lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward, especially in reverence or submission.

25:65

˹They are˺ those who pray, “Our Lord! Keep the punishment of Hell away from us, for its punishment is indeed unrelenting.
Meaning:-
Unrelenting has no mercy, not softening, never slows down.

25:67

Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes);
Meaning:-
Extravagant: spending much more than is necessary or wise; wasteful:
Niggardly: stingy; miserly.
Brief description of the Ayat:
In ordinary spending this is a wise rule. But even in charity, in which we give of our best, it is not expected that we should be extravagant, i.e., that we should either do it for show, to impress other people, or do it thoughtlessly, which would be the case if we “rob Peter to pay Paul”. We should certainly not be niggardly, but we should remember everyone’s rights, including our own, and strike a perfectly just balance between them.

25:68

˹They are˺ those who do not invoke any other god besides Allah, nor take ‘kill’ a ˹human˺ life—which Allah has forbidden except in the requirements of justice, nor commit fornication. And whoever does ˹any of˺ this will face the penalty.
Meaning:-
Invoke: to call on (a deity), as in prayer. {Deity: Fake God, God; Supreme Being, like a god or goddess.}
Fornication: sexual intercourse between people not married to each other.

25:70

Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
Meaning:-
Repent: regret for past wrongs, to feel sorry.

25:72

˹They are˺ those who do not bear false witness, and when they come across falsehood, they pass ˹it˺ by with dignity.
Meaning:-
False: not according with truth or fact; incorrect.
Falsehood: the state of being untrue, a false statement; lie.

25:75

They will be rewarded the highest position in heaven, the recompense of their patience, and they will be welcomed with honour and greetings of peace.
Meaning:-
Recompense: compensate, reward, pay.

25:77

O Muhammad! Say: “My Lord does not care at all if you invoke Him or not. Now that you have rejected His revelations, soon you will face the inevitable punishment.”
Meaning:-
Invoke: to call on for help, support, to ask for aid or protection (as in prayer)
Inevitable: unavoidable.
